ISCC CORSIA certificates have reached a new high of 500 certificates worldwide! This achievement highlights our ongoing commitment to cleaner skies, thanks to the certification of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).

In a time when air travel is regaining momentum after COVID and related greenhouse gas emissions are on the rise, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and its 193 Member States committed to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Achieving this ambitious climate target demands a transformation of the aviation sector, with SAF at its core. As a globally recognised certification scheme under ICAO’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) since 2020, ISCC CORSIA ensures robust sustainability, traceability, and life-cycle assessment (LCA) methodologies for SAF as CORSIA Eligible Fuels (CEF).

We are proud to announce that we have contributed to a lower-carbon aviation sector by reaching the milestone of holding over 500 valid ISCC CORSIA certificates in May 2025, representing an impressive 400% growth in certifications compared to April of last year. At this rate, we might even break through the sound barrier very soon! But first, let’s have a closer look at our latest statistics and figures.

From Start to Touchdown: The Qualities of CORSIA and Its Wide-Ranging Scope

ISCC CORSIA certification combines in-depth industry knowledge, global market access, robust lifecycle emissions tracking and full traceability throughout the entire supply chain. These supply chains span the entire globe, with 82 ISCC CORSIA certificates in the Americas, closely followed by 79 certificates in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa combined. Over and above that, the Asia Pacific region skyrockets with an impressive 341 registered ISCC CORSIA certificates and by doing so, lays the groundwork for a more sustainable future of aviation as the said region is projected to become the largest hub for air passenger traffic by 2037.1 Together, they have set the course to replace fossil aviation fuels with alternative raw materials such as waste, residues or by-products (e.g. used cooking oil (UCO), animal fats, palm oil mill effluent (POME) oil) and agricultural feedstocks (such as corn, sugarcane and palm).

Data as of May 2025. 400% growth rate compared to April 2024.

Currently, SAF certified under ISCC CORSIA is produced using various fuel conversion processes, with Hydroprocessed Esters and Fatty Acids (HEFA) leading the way thanks to its established technology. Co-processing serves as an effective method for incorporating alternative fuels into existing refineries, while the Alcohol-to-Jet (AtJ) approach, despite having a smaller market share, showcases innovation by transforming alcohols, such as ethanol, into fuel. Collectively, these methods demonstrate the expanding and varied SAF market, driving significant advancements in reducing emissions.

Your Actions Matter!

Aviation remains one of the most pressing issues in tackling global warming, as it leaves the highest carbon footprint per individual.2 Meanwhile, the use of SAF saves up to 80% in carbon emissions compared to fossil fuels.

We would like to thank our partners, System Users, and cooperating Certification Bodies, as well as the broader aviation and environmental community, for your ongoing support regarding the common goal of achieving a lower-carbon aviation sector. ISCC CORSIA certifications are far more than a mere formality – they are a necessity.
